Winner to represent the United States at international contest in Lisbon, Portugal in June 

This week, Saint-Gobain North America held the United States National round of the Saint-Gobain Architecture Student Contest, awarding the top prize to Xuhan Zhao of Rhode Island School of Design for her innovative design to revitalize an underutilized public space in the City of Lisbon, Portugal.  

Created in 2004 and aimed primarily at college students majoring in architecture, engineering and building design, the Saint-Gobain Architecture Student Contest is designed to highlight the expertise of students around a project based on the real needs of a neighborhood or city, using Saint-Gobain's sustainable construction approach. This year’s contest challenges participants to develop a proposal that transforms a plot in the Boavista Landfill section of Lisbon, Portugal into a local cultural center.  

Hosted at the offices of the American Institute of Architects in New York City, 12 teams competed for the chance to represent the United States in the international competition, which will be held in Lisbon in June. Judged by a panel of experts including Yorgo Lykouria, Founder & Director of Rainlight Studio in London, John Vermeersch, Architect – Project Manager for SI Engineering, P.C. in New York City and Michelle Schutt, Associate AIA, Architectural Solutions Manager for Saint-Gobain, each participant was judged on architectural design, technical and environmental detail, construction detail, and product usage.

SAINT-GOBAIN AMÉRIQUE DU NORD ANNONCE LE GAGNANT DU CONCOURS DES ÉTUDIANTS EN ARCHITECTURE DE LA TOURNÉE NATIONALE DES ÉTATS-UNIS

Le vainqueur représentera les États-Unis au concours international à Lisbonne, au Portugal, en juin 

Cette semaine, Saint-Gobain North Amérique du Nord a organisé la tournée nationale des États-Unis du Saint-Gobain Architecture Student Contest (Concours de Saint-Gobain pour les étudiants en architecture). Elle a attribué le premier prix à Xuhan Zhao de École de Design de Rhode Island pour sa conception innovante qui cherche à revitaliser un espace public sous-utilisé de la ville de Lisbonne, au Portugal.  

Ce concours, créé en 2004, s’adresse principalement aux étudiants du baccalauréat en architecture, en ingénierie et en conception de bâtiments. Il vise à souligner l’expertise des étudiants dans le cadre d’un projet basé sur des besoins réels d’un voisinage ou d’une ville en utilisant l’approche de construction durable de Saint-Gobain. Le concours de cette année met les étudiants au défi de développer une proposition qui peut transformer une parcelle de terrain de la section du site d’enfouissement Boavista de Lisbonne, au Portugal, en un centre culturel local.  

12 équipes ont participé à la compétition pour avoir la chance de représenter les États-Unis dans la compétition internationale, qui aura lieu à Lisbonne en juin. Elles ont été hébergées dans les bureaux du American Institute of Architects de New York City et évaluées par un panel d’experts composé de Yorgo Lykouria, fondateur et directeur de Rainlight Studio à Londres, John Vermeersch, architecte et directeur de projet pour SI Engineering, P.C. à New York City et Michelle Schutt, associé AIA, gestionnaire de conception architecturale pour Saint-Gobain. Chaque participant a été évalué sur la base de la conception architecturale, des détails techniques et environnementaux, des détails de construction et de l’utilisation des produits.
