Position Summary

The Assistant Loading Supervisor, under the direction of the Loading Supervisor, will primarily be responsible for supporting the Loading Supervisor, overseeing the safe loading of trucks, assisting customers, and providing guidance and direction to the other shipping employees. This position is hands-on and will require the successful candidate to learn and perform all aspects of loading. This position will ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and safety standards. This role will also ensure effectiveness of employees through assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal.

Responsibilities:

What you’ll do:

  • Ensure safe work practices are being followed.
  • Ensure that employees adhere to all health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure that all staff under your direction are equipped with and are using the proper personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure that every employee under your direction is trained on every task they will be required to perform throughout their shift ie. safe operation, paperwork completion, banding/strapping, housekeeping, setting up trailers, etc.
  • Ensure that the Loading lead hands are effectively training and monitoring the loading team.
  • Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards.
  • With the support of Human Resources, handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations.
  • Ensure that loads are shipped completely and that the trucks are loaded safely.
  • Work closely with the Logistics Coordinator and the Loading Supervisor to determine daily priorities.
  • Notify the sales team of any product that did not make it on the truck.
  • Inspect the racks and surrounding area on a daily basis to ensure that product is not forgotten.
  • Ensure that all trucks have the required load manifest paperwork.
  • Determine areas of improvement for employees, providing additional training as needed.
  • Celebrate successes and foster an atmosphere of success.
  • Provide informal feedback and coaching to staff on an ongoing basis and document those discussions.
  • Ensure employees have clear goals and are aware of expectations.
  • Participate in site and workplace inspections.
  • Liaise with other departments as well as other shifts to ensure that all parties are aware of the priorities for the day.
  • Assist with the loading of customer vehicles or the loading of trucks as required.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment such as the Moffetts, Combi-lift forklifts, and counterbalance forklifts.
  • Unload shipments from vendors as required.
  • Assist with the control of traffic in the yard.
  • Ensure that the employees under your direction maintain a clean working environment.
  • Ensure that all employees take allotted vacation time in compliance with applicable employment and labour standards.
  • Approve vacation requests and monitor vacation schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, repair & maintain all systems on mobile equipment such as; Drills, Wheel loaders, Excavators, Dozers, Haul Trucks, Road Maintenance Equipment, Track Mobile as well as various other mobile equipment. This includes, engine, transmission, electrical, hydraulic systems among many others.
  • Diagnose, repair & maintain all systems on stationary equipment such as; Rock Handling Plants (RHP) and Rail Load-Out Facility (RLO).
  • Experienced, competent and able to repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain mobile equipment & stationary equipment with a focus on preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Perform in accordance with a preventive maintenance program, verification, disassembly, repair, assembly, adjustment, and overhauls to maintain mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Accurately document and track all work completed through a CMMS system (SAP).
  • Development of detailed standard maintenance interval procedures for each of the mobile equipment units and stationary equipment as per OEM guidelines. Creating a robust preventive maintenance program.
  • Maintains high safety standards, shop standards, and motivated to do their best work every day.
  • Occasionally performs work in other trades and provides plant maintenance support.
  • Participates and supports World Class Manufacturing and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Sourcing, Pricing and Ordering Parts and creating Purchase Requisitions / MRO using SAP.
  • Maintenance of Crusher and Conveyor Systems.

Working Conditions:

  • The unionized mine operates on a 5 days per week schedule.
  • This is a permanent, full-time position (Days).
  • This position will be based at the Kootenay West Mine near Canal Flats, with the opportunity to work also at the Windermere Mine Operation in Windermere and at the RLO located in Invermere and Canal Flats.
  • Mine and RHP operations are operated outdoor with exposure to weather conditions, dust and noise and industrial solvents and lubricants.

Essential Functions:

  • Drives industrial lift truck equipped with Forklift, elevating platform to push, pull, stack or tier Merchandise, equipment or bulk materials in the warehouse, storage yard or factory.
  • Moves levers and depresses pedals to drive the truck and control the movement of the lifting apparatus
  • Positions forks or lifting platform under loaded or unloaded pallets, skid or boxes and transports to designated area.
  • Loads and unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lift forks or lifting platform.
  • May inventory materials on work floor, and supply workers with materials as needed.
  • Loads material onto skids or pallets manually for shipment or use in the production area.
  • Performs the necessary cleaning, servicing and driver maintenance including checking oil, water and fuel levels refilling as needed
  • Cleans and prepares trucks and railroad cars for loading and prepares loading summary records; checks all trucks and boxcars before loading as to cleanliness, leaks, odors, protruding nails, steel bands, etc.
  • Checks for the correct filling of orders, including proper stenciling, correct material, condition of packager, recording package number and weight and the correct listing of material shipped on the face of the order.
  • Fills out a master packing list on all orders consisting of more than one shipping tally.
  • Prepares materials for shipment via L.C.L and L.T.L carload or truckload.
  • Loads or unloads materials manually into or from clean boxcars and trucks in a manner that will prevent damage while in route.
  • Keeps the warehouse and stores area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Prepares accurate reports, records and work time cards as maybe required.
  • May use simple hand tools (crowbar, hammer) to do miner work on warehouse pallets and shipping or receiving vehicle. This does not mean forklift.

  • Responsible for being a leadership resource to production line activity, providing guidance on processes and equipment/tool operation
  • Train line operators on required process and equipment operation utilizing SOPs and creating the required documentation via OPLs when not available
  • Report online performance, against standards and schedule, during daily meetings
  • Responsible for ensuring Production Line is operating to planned Production Schedule
  • Continuously evaluate workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels

5% OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives, including but not limited to kaizen events, sustainment board launches, SOP writing and development, Safety “Red” tagging of equipment, etc.

Job Duties:

The Purchasing Manager, under the guidance of the President, will be responsible for enhancing our purchasing practices and procedures. This position will work closely with our Purchasing team and oversee all purchasing tasks including raw materials, equipment, services, and supplies. What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with the Director of Sales to monitor inventory and determine supply needs to meet customer demand with an in-depth knowledge of market pricing and replacement costs of steel.
  • Work with the Director of Metal Procurement to make decisions regarding steel purchasing needs.
  • Analyze market trends and use this information to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Prepare data/analysis for weekly steel procurement meetings.
  • Review supply outages, determine the root causes, and adjust the Purchasing program, if required.
  • Assist other departments with purchasing needs including the IT Department, Logistics Department, and Manufacturing Department.
  • Manage other members of the Purchasing team which currently includes the Purchasing coordinator (Steel Procurement) and the Purchasing Administrator.
  • Negotiate prices and contracts with vendors.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors.
  • Research new vendors and contact vendors for quotes.
  • Evaluate existing vendors based on quality, timeliness, and price.
  • Evaluate existing vendor contracts and revise as required.
  • Advise management about vendor price increases.
  • In consultation with the Director of Metal Procurement, create the annual Purchasing budget.
  • Use forecasting techniques to ensure that we are maintaining appropriate inventory levels based on seasonality (and other) requirements.
  • Review inventory min/max settings in the ERP system to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist the Sales department with any purchasing inquiries.
  • Review and approve special purchasing requests.
  • Make informed decisions regarding whether a product should be stocked in our plants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications and Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Purchasing Manager.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Commitment to ethical business practices.
  • Experience in steel procurement is preferred.
  • Having a purchasing designation is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Process-oriented.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Microsoft Dynamics experience is an asset.

  • Semi-automatic welding and robotic welding operation (training will be provided in-house).
  • All other duties appropriate to the position as assigned or required by the Supervisor.

  • Knowledge of roll-forming, welding, and/or robot operation as an asset.
  • Able to read standard/metric measuring tape.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical calculations in either standard/metric units.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and comply with work directions, training manuals, and safety rules.
